Goats Regency architecture and modernism. Definitely the best of the old and new....

Fitzwilliam College is one of the University of Cambridge’s colleges, known for being relatively modern in formal status but rooted in an access-focused history. It was founded in 1869 to help students who were not members of a college, and it became a full college in 1966; its motto is “the best of old and new.”

Fitzwilliam has produced a number of notable alumni, including Nobel Prize-winning chemist Sir Aaron Klug, former Chancellor of the Exchequer Norman Lamont, and other figures in politics, science, and the arts.

Interesting facts..

Fitz has a very Cambridge-specific bit of lore: it is known for its college mascot being the goat, with “Billy-goats” as a nickname in some contexts.

The Grove is a detached Regency house at the center of the Fitzwilliam site, and the oldest building on the college grounds is painted above. A real hardy survivor, a bit like a goat.
