Watercolour of an old Edwardian red-brick house which now has a role as one of the most progressive colleges. Captured above in this watercolour
The college began in 1965 as Lucy Cavendish Collegiate Society, founded by Cambridge academics who wanted better opportunities for women in the university. It became a full college in 1986 and received a Royal Charter in 1997. The name honours Lucy Cavendish, who campaigned for women’s education reform.
Lucy Cavendish was founded specifically to create collegiate status for women scholars at a time when university structures still excluded them in practical ways.
Interesting facts...
It admits both male and female students and has a high proportion from poorer backgrounds. A really supportive place.
