Theatre Royal Haymarket
The Theatre Royal Haymarket is one of the oldest and most prestigious theatres in London. It is located on Haymarket Street and has a capacity of 888 seats. The theatre was originally built in 1720 by John Potter, and has been redesigned several times since then. The current building dates back to 1821, when it was renovated by John Nash, the architect of Buckingham Palace. Interestingly the Theatre won its battle to survive when the aptly named manager Samual Foote damaged his foot. The accident occurred while horse riding with the Duke of York. The Duke feeling sorry for foote granted him permission to stage legitimate drama, which included Shakespeare (a real money spinner). The theatre then became ‘The Theatre Royal, Haymarket.
