Watercolour of a Mayfair gentleman's club. The Lansdowne Club is a private members' club in London, England occupying a large building, notable in its own right. It was established in 1935 and occupies most of 9 Fitzmaurice Place, a street connecting Berkeley Square to Curzon Streetin Mayfair.

The Grade II*-listed building retains five original Adam rooms, including a grand ballroom, alongside 1930s Art Deco features like a basement swimming pool and modern interiors. Its unusual mix of neoclassical curves, domes, and plasterwork sets it apart from typical Georgian structures.

Winston Churchill dined here, and Benjamin Franklin reportedly contributed to the 1782 Treaty of Paris in the Round Room. Past residents included Harry Gordon Selfridge in the 1920s; today, resident cats Harry and Rose nod to this era.

Interesting facts...

Harry Gordon Selfridge lived here in the 1920s, inspiring the club’s resident cats, Harry and Rose (named for him and his wife), adopted from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home as quirky guardians of the premises. Charles Dickens also visited during its pre-club era.
