Spanish moss is common and native to Texas, particularly in the warmer, humid regions along the coastal strip and southern parts of the state. It grows naturally on trees like live oaks and bald cypress, creating the iconic “Southern” aesthetic often associated with the region.
Its actually part of the pineapple family!
Itis neither Spanish nor a moss. The misleading name came because it looked enough like the long beards worn by Spanish conquistadors that early observers called it “Spanish” moss.
