Ironmongers’ Hall has a rich and eventful history closely tied to the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers, one of London’s Great Twelve livery companies. The company itself dates back to at least 1300 and was formally incorporated by Royal Charter in 1463. It is the fourth Hall the previous distryed by a WW1 bomb.

Salamanders. The hall is decorated with 123 salamander motifs because salamanders were once believed to be fireproof and born in fire—a fitting symbol for ironmongers who worked with fire
Ostrich.Ostriches were thought to eat iron, making them another emblem of the Ironmongers.
