Hampton Court Palace is the historic royal palace in East Molesey, southwest London, best known as Henry VIII’s former home and for its later Baroque transformation under William III and Mary II. It’s now a major visitor attraction with Tudor state rooms, gardens, the maze, and the Great Hall.
The palace began in the early 16th century under Cardinal Wolsey and was later taken over by Henry VIII, who made it one of the grandest royal residences in England.
In the late 17th century, Christopher Wren redesigned parts of it for William III and Mary II, giving the palace its striking mix of Tudor and Baroque styles.
Interesting facts..
The paving in Clock Court outlines the footprint of the earlier medieval house that predated the palace.
Another interesting thing, the Great Hall has “eavesdroppers” carved into the roof as a warning against gossip!
