Florence Cathedral, formally the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower, is the cathedral of the Catholic Archdiocese of Florence. it sits in the old town and cuts a dramatic silhouette against the hills in the distance.
The hill surrounding include most notably the Monte alle Croci / San Miniato hill south of the Arno and the Fiesole hills to the northeast, with the broader Tuscan hill range (part of the Apennines).

Interesting facts....
San Miniato al Monte  basilica is dedicated to Saint Minias (Miniato), an Armenian prince-saint said to have been beheaded in 250 AD by Emperor Decius.
In one version of the legend, after being cut off at the head, Minias walked without his head to the exact spot where the abbey now stands, then lived as a hermit there until his death. which you would have thought was pretty soo after losing his head.
