The Dorchester stands on Park Lane overlooking Hyde Park, and has been a byword for glamour and high society since it opened in 1931. Designed by William Curtis Green in a restrained classical style, the hotel quickly became a favourite with royalty, film stars and diplomats. Its façade is dignified rather than showy, but the interiors have always been lavish, with grand public rooms, crystal chandeliers and richly decorated suites.
 
During the Second World War the hotel was used by senior Allied officers and government figures, and it later hosted state visits, premieres and celebrity events.
 
Interesting facts…
In the 1950s and 60s The Dorchester's Promenade became a fashionable place to be seen, with society columnists regularly listing who was taking tea or lunch there.
