Christ Church Greyfriars is a historic landmark in the City of London, known for its centuries-old monastic origins, dramatic destruction, and transformation into a unique public garden.

Once one of London’s largest and most important churches, Christ Church Greyfriars has quite a history: monastic grandeur, royal patronage, scholarly significance, and notable burials (including several queens). One of London’s hidden heritage sites. A Wren church bombed during the war and turned into a beautiful garden.

Interesting facts.

Isabella of France was laid to rest here. It was said to be buried in her wedding dress with Edward II’s heart in her hand—one of London’s creepiest royal legends. Her lover, Roger Mortimer, who played a part in Edward II’s murder, may also have initially been interred at Greyfriars.
