St Benet’s Hall was a Permanent Private Hall of the University of Oxford, founded in 1897 with a distinctive Benedictine and Roman Catholic ethos, but it was permanently closed in 2022.
It was established by Ampleforth Abbey to provide a place for Benedictine monks to study for secular degrees at Oxford. Over time, it transitioned to admit lay students and became notable for maintaining a monastic tradition.
Interesting fact..
Although closed the buildings are now owned by St Hilda’s College so remain within Oxford Universities circle.
