Christie’s Londons oldest Auctioneers established in 1766.
Christie’s actual name is Christie, Manson and Woods, but only uses the name of the founding partner. It has offices globally but St James is its flagship where it has been based since 1823. The offices and auction rooms include several buildings from King Street to Ryder Street, including the old fire station.
Interesting facts…
Some of the strangest things Christie’s has sold include a few genuinely bizarre objects, not just rare art. Among the most memorable are a two-headed lamb, a taxidermy fruit bat, a caiman mounted as a dumbwaiter, a chastity belt, and a crystal-encrusted dog skeleton.
