Basilica della Collegiata also known as Santa Maria dell'Elemosina.
Its striking late Baroque facade, designed by Stefano Ittar, features a dramatic interplay of concave and convex forms, six stone columns, and statues of prominent saints, making it one of the most notable examples of Catanese Baroque. The church’s interior is equally impressive, with a basilica plan divided into three naves, richly decorated altars, and frescoes by Giuseppe Sciuti. Historically, the basilica played a significant role as the royal chapel for the Aragonese court and later as a collegiate church directly under royal patronage, which led to centuries of rivalry with Catania’s cathedral.
