Wolfson College, Cambridge, is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge, founded in 1965 initially as "University College". Wolfson was the first Cambridge college to admit men and women as both students and Fellows, fostering a cosmopolitan and egalitarian environment with no traditional hierarchical practices such as separate High Table or Senior Combination Rooms.

 

It comprises of only modern buildings so its historical heart is a simple residential House. Built in 1914 for John Stanley Gardiner, Professor of Zoology, and his wife Edith Gertrude Gardiner, a biochemist, it remained the family home until after World War II. The house and its gardens were donated to the University of Cambridge after Gardiner’s death in 1946, forming the foundation of what became Wolfson College.

John and Edith had a lasting impact on the University and also raised chickens at there house above.
