University College, Oxford, often called “Univ,” is one of the oldest and most historically significant colleges at the University of Oxford. It was founded in 1249 by William of Durham. Its buildings and Quadrangle date from the 17th Century onwards.
The college has been associated with many notable figures including Stephen Hawking, C. S. Lewis, Percy Bysshe Shelley, and former US President Bill Clinton.
Interesting facts....
A popular but legendary story says it was founded by King Alfred in 872, which influences arms and traditions.
It has its own ghost the Grey Lady. She is said to be the spirit of a young woman who met a tragic end due to a forbidden romance with a young student at the college. She apparently makes people sad before she appears, I would assume terrified afterwards!
