Watercolour of perhaps the most famous house in the world.

The White House is the official residence and workplace of the president of the United States, located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW in Washington, D.C. It is both the executive residence and main offices of the U.S. president and close staff. Every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800 has lived or worked there ( I also painted his house in Mayfair, London)

Irish-born architect James Hoban won the competition to design the house; construction began in the 1790s and Adams moved in after about eight years of work. British troops burned the building during the War of 1812 in 1814, leaving only exterior walls, which were then largely reconstructed under Hoban. Today the building contains about 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, eight staircases, three elevators, and multiple kitchens and service areas. Also lots of secret stuff as well.

Interesting facts...

So much history in this building which symbolises the birth of a nation literally  from top to bottom.  The roof spaces were once sleeping areas for slaves, whilst the basement is the most high tech command bunkers in the world. A reminder of how far a country has come.
