The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is a major botanic garden and research centre in Edinburgh, founded in 1670 and now spread across four Scottish sites, with the main Edinburgh garden covering about 70 acres. It is both a popular visitor attraction and a world-leading centre for plant science and conservation.

The Edinburgh garden is the flagship site of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh, also known locally as “The Botanics.” It holds a living collection of more than 13,000 plant species and a herbarium of over 3 million preserved specimens.

It is actually it the second oldest botanic garden in the UK after Oxford’s.

Interesting facts...

A lot of the rarest material is not in the flower beds at all, but in the herbarium, which holds more than 3 million preserved specimens and is a major scientific archive.
