The Hub in Edinburgh is a striking Gothic‑Revival building at the top of the Royal Mile, just below Edinburgh Castle, that now serves as the main home and box office for the Edinburgh International Festival.
Originally built as the Highland Tolbooth St John’s Church (also known as the Victoria Hall), the building was designed by J. Gillespie Graham and Augustus Pugin and opened between 1844 and 1845 as an Assembly Hall for the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.
Its 71.7‑metre Gothic spire is the highest point in central Edinburgh and dominates the skyline just below the Castle.
Interesting facts...
Inside, the main hall is heavily modelled on Gothic Revival church architecture, with rib‑vaulted ceilings, carved wood panels, and a striking Pugin‑designed pulpit spire, but you’d never guess just from the outside how ornate the interior is.
