The Hotel Chelsea is a legendary landmark known for its rich artistic history, having hosted countless writers, musicians, and creatives over the decades. Originally conceived as one of the city’s first cooperative apartment buildings, it became a hotel in 1905 and quickly attracted creative luminaries such as Mark Twain, O. Henry, Arthur Miller, Dylan Thomas, Patti Smith, Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, and Janis Joplin.

so many famous people that Longtime manager Stanley Bard often accepted artworks from struggling artists in lieu of rent. The hotel’s walls became an impromptu gallery of original works by now-famous residents

Nancy Spungen (girlfriend of Sid Vicious), was found dead in Room 100 in 1978. Sid Vicious was arrested for her murder but died of a heroin overdose before trial. 

Composer George Kleinsinger reportedly walked his alligator down the corridors.

Artist Mark Rothko set up his studio in the dining room.

Edie Sedgwick accidentally set fire to her room, and Dee Dee Ramone was seen racing nude up and down the spiral stairs
