Interesting facts...

It originally opened in 1914 as a burlesque theater. After the burlesque era ended, the Apollo became a key venue for African American performers and was the first theater in New York to allow a mixed-race audience and hire Black backstage workers

During the Harlem riots in 1964, while much of 125th Street was damaged, no one touched the Apollo Theater, underscoring its sacred status in the community.
