Simpson’s-in-the-Strand is a historic London restaurant recognized for its traditional British cuisine, classic carving trolleys, and rich literary heritage dating back to 1828.

Simpson’s began as a coffee house and chess club in 1828, gaining fame for both its roast meats and its role in the British chess scene. Its antique carving trolleys—introduced so chess players would not be disturbed—remain a hallmark of the restaurant experience to this day.

Simpson’s counts literary figures such as Charles Dickens and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle among its admirers. Sherlock Holmes himself dines there in “The Adventure of the Dying Detective”.
