Shafto Mews is a small, cobbled mews located in Knightsbridge, just off Cadogan Square, close to Pont Street, Harrods and Sloane Square. It is characterised by a striking brick archway at its entrance, which dates from around 1880 and is Grade II listed. The mews was originally built to house staff and horses serving the grand surrounding mansions of Belgravia, specifically those associated with Hans Town’s development in the late 18th and 19th centuries.
Historically, Shafto Mews was home to coachmen, chauffeurs, grooms, and other household staff. Over time, the ordinary workers’ homes have transformed into highly sought-after private residences
interesting facts...
The mews today is a quiet cul-de-sac. Notably, at the far end is a green door—locked to the public. I wonder where is leads
The site was once a Mansion built by Henry Holland of Holland Park. The name Shafto was the name of a local prominant family.
