Santa Maria del Rosario (commonly known as I Gesuati) is a stunning 18th-century Dominican church in Venice’s Dorsoduro district, famous for its intact Rococo decoration and masterful ceiling frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo.
The church is exceptional for preserving its original layout and Rococo decoration intact, with almost all sculpture and paintings created within a single 30-year period (1725–1755).
The architect was Giorgio Massari (1687–1766), a celebrated Venetian architect. I love the way the sun light changes not only the church but the colour of the canal in tandem.
Interesting facts...
Its worth a look as Tiepolo created 40 frescoes of varying dimensions in only 12 months—an astonishingly fast pace for such high quality.
