Watercolour of an amazing Cathedral.

Salisbury Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is one of the finest and most unified examples of Early English Gothic architecture in England, built remarkably quickly between 1220 and 1258 on a new site at New Salisbury.

It is the tallest. The crossing tower was heightened and the famous spire added by about 1330; at 404 ft (123 m) it is the tallest church spire in Britain and dominates the surrounding landscape. Because the spire is exceptionally heavy, later medieval builders reinforced the crossing with internal strainer arches and additional bracing to resist the extra load and movement. It really is a structural feat.

Interesting facts...

Houses one of the four surviving original 1215 Magna Carta documents, widely regarded as the best‑preserved copy, displayed in the Chapter House. It also has the oldest working mechanical clock in the world made in 1386
