Saddlers’ Hall is the historic livery hall of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, one of the oldest livery companies in the City of London, located at 40 Gutter Lane, just moments from St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The Saddlers’ Company’s history dates back to at least the 12th century, with a guild likely existing in the Anglo-Saxon era. The Company received its first Royal Charter in 1395, cementing its status as a corporate body with key privileges over the saddlery trade

interesting facts....

Saddlers’ Hall holds one of the oldest secret ballot boxes in England, dating back to 1619, still in use today. This Jacobean device allowed members to cast secret votes, putting an end to open voting where only the powerful prevailed. The method was novel enough to attract royal suspicion—James I derided it as “Italian trickery”

The Hall preserves traditions linked to royal coronations. During such ceremonies, the “King’s Champion” would ride into Westminster Hall to challenge anyone disputing the new monarch, throwing down a gauntlet (glove) as a challenge—this actual item, with its elaborate trappings, is on display, along with his saddle and bridle
