The Prospect Park Boathouse is a historic Beaux Arts-style event venue located on the northeast shore of the Lullwater in Prospect Park, Brooklyn, New York City. Built between 1905 and 1907, it was one of the first buildings in NYC to be declared a historic landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Interesting facts...
The Prospect Park Boathouse was almost demolished in 1964 due to underuse and neglect. Local preservationists, including poet Marianne Moore and the Friends of Prospect Park, rallied public support just 48 hours before its scheduled demolition, sparking a preservation movement that ultimately saved the building. The action of this group led to the Landmark protection status we see today in NYC
