Piedmont, Italy, translates literally to "foot of the mountains" and famously produces Europe's highest volume of rice. This massive rice production has fueled a centuries-old love affair with risotto in a region that is also celebrated as the birthplace of the world-renowned Barolo wine and the international Slow Food movement.

Interesting facts….

The Truffle Capital: The region's town of Alba is home to the extremely rare Tuber magnatum (white truffle), which regularly fetches thousands of dollars per pound at auction during the annual International Alba White Truffle Fair

Italy's First Capital: The regional capital, Turin, served as the very first capital of the newly unified Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1865.
