Osteria Bancogiro is a highly regarded Venetian restaurant located in the heart of Venice, right at the foot of the Rialto Bridge with a charming canalfront terrace overlooking the Grand Canal.
 
The Osteria Bancogiro sits in one of Venice’s most historically significant financial locations. The building’s name comes from the Bancogiro, the first embryonic bank of the world, which was established here in 1157 (some sources cite 1600). This wasn’t just any bank—it was Venice’s first public bank, a pioneering financial institution where affluent Venetians sent their servants to settle outstanding debts
 
The restaurant occupies the archway and portico of the original Bancogiro bank, beneath the Sotoportego del Bancogiro in Campo San Giacometto. This is the actual space where 16th- and 17th-century Venetian merchants conducted sophisticated financial transactions.
