A watercolour of Montacute House
Montacute House is a late Elizabethan mansion in the village of Montacute, near Yeovil in South Somerset, set within about 106 hectares (260 acres) of historic parkland that is Grade I listed for its landscape interest.
The park features veteran trees including sweet chestnut, London plane, oak and a striking Lime Avenue that runs through the heart of the landscape.
The estate also includes several listed smaller features around the gardens and park, such as the orangery, stables, gateways, and lodges, plus garden structures like the pool and fountain in the North Garden and the steps to the sunken garden. These different element all help create a layered beautiful place.
Interesting facts...
Hidden tunnels apparently links few of these buildings although as ever there is little proof of this.
