Watercolour of the UK's most beautiful houses and gardens
The conservatory at Mapperton House is a striking, curved Victorian glasshouse attached to the garden front of the manor and is widely regarded as one of the house’s most distinctive features.
It was added in 1876 as a late‑Victorian extension to the mainly early‑19th‑century Grade II*‑listed house.
The structure is a gracefully curved glass‑roofed space, typical of mid‑ to late‑Victorian garden architecture, designed to blend with the formal gardens and provide a light‑filled entertaining room.
Interesting facts..
Hidden away in the gardens is a stone bath known locally as “Queen Elizabeth’s Bath,” which has recently been reinterpreted as a Georgian‑style plunge pool, possibly used for cooling off in summer.
