Watercolour of the UK's most beautiful houses and it has a pool.
Mapperton House pool. A large, spring‑fed 18th‑century swimming‑style pool in the gardens, which has become famous for its age, restoration, and quirky history. It is not a modern estate‑style infinity pool, but a much older.
It lies below the main formal terraces and the conservatory, part of the same axis of pools, fountains, and steps that run down the valley slope.
Interesting fact...
The main pool is home to a resident turtle (“Nestor”), who has to be removed whenever the pool is drained and cleaned—a process that takes around two weeks to refill. Vet patient Nestor!
