Magdalen College is one of the most prestigious constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. Founded in 1458 by William of Waynflete, Bishop of Winchester, the college is particularly famous for its beautiful Magdalen Tower and its tradition of May Morning choral singing from the tower, a ceremony dating back to the reign of Henry VII. The celebrated May Morning ceremony features the college choir singing atop Magdalen Tower (shown above) at dawn each May 1st
Interesting facts...
Magdalen features unique hieroglyphics—carvings of lions, deer, and other figures—each said to have symbolic meaning for college community members, from the President to new students. There are also secret doors in the back of Hall that fellows slip through, unseen by most visitors.
