Watercolour of the entrance to Leighton House. Leighton House Museum is a historic art museum and former home of Victorian artist Frederic Leighton, located in Holland Park, London (W14 8LZ). Built between 1866 and 1895 by architect George Aitchison, it served as Leighton’s combined home and studio, famous for its elaborate Orientalist interiors, especially the “Arab Hall” decorated with Middle Eastern tiles and a golden dome.

Queen Victoria visited Leighton House and his studio, highlighting its prestige in Victorian society.

Frederic Lord Leighton was made a baron on January 24, 1896, and famously died the very next day, giving him the shortest peerage in British history.
