Laverton Mews is a quiet, peaceful cobbled cul-de-sac located just off Courtfield Gardens in the South Kensington and Earls Court area of London, within the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea

The development of mews streets like Laverton Mews came as part of the Victorian-era suburban expansion, especially following the construction of the Metropolitan District Railway (later the District Line) in the 1860s, which enabled the area’s transformation from rural farmland into a residential suburb. Laverton Mews was laid out as a stable mews to serve the larger houses in the area, characterized by cobbled streets and arch entrances typical of Kensington mews developments, designed to accommodate horses and carriages associated with the grand homes nearby.

Interesting facts...

Mews streets often feature arched entrances that sometimes have inscriptions or signs related to historic rules, such as “Commit no nuisance,” reflecting their past as service streets with strict usage rules. Less celebratory and more to remind occupants to behave themselves.
