Homerton College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge, known for its nonconformist origins in London and its later role as a major teacher‑training institution before becoming a full Cambridge college in 2010.
The institution traces its roots to a dissenting academy founded in London in 1695 to educate Protestant nonconformist clergy who were barred from Oxford and Cambridge.
In 1730 backers formed the King’s Head Society, named after the City pub where they met. the society still exists today at the College.
Interesting fact...
Homerton was actually a village which is now Hackney!
