Goodwood House is a Grade I listed country house on a vast estate near Chichester, West Sussex. It has been the principal seat of the Dukes of Richmond for over 300 years and remains their family home. The present house incorporates an earlier Jacobean building of 1616–17, later enlarged with 18th‑century wings.

 

The house stands within an estate of about 11,000 acres of Sussex downland and parkland.The wider estate is famous for horse racing, motor racing, and major events such as the Festival of Speed and the Qatar Goodwood Festival.

Interesting facts....

It was once home to the Wizard earl. Henry Percy, 9th Earl of Northumberland (1564–1632). he had an intense interests in alchemy, astronomy, cartography, and scientific experiments, amassing one of England’s largest private libraries. He hosted intellectual gatherings which included Sir Walter Raleigh. Eventually he was imprisoned due to the gun powder plot and diets on Guy Fawkes night!
