Cutlers’ Hall in London is the historic home of The Worshipful Company of Cutlers, a livery company dating back to 1285. The current hall, located on Warwick Lane near St Paul’s Cathedral, was built in 1887-1888 and is the fifth hall used by the company. It features a distinctive red brick facade with a terracotta frieze depicting the cutlers’ craft—making knives, swords, and other edged tools—and bears the company’s coat of arms, including the elephant and castle symbol representing strength and the historic use of ivory handles.

The hall survived the Great Fire of London and the Blitz during World War II, maintaining much of its Victorian architecture, including an impressive hammerbeam roof in the Livery Hall. Inside, it houses a Court Room, Library, and a large Livery Hall.

Interesting facts...

Its how Elephant and Castle got its name....

The company’s coat of arms features an elephant and castle, referencing the ivory once used for cutlery handles. This is thought to have inspired the name of the Elephant and Castle area in London, possibly from a pub sign linked to the Cutlers
