Watercolour of the crown of Buffalo City Hall. Buffalo City Hall, located at 65 Niagara Square, is the municipal government seat of Buffalo, New York. Completed in 1931, it is a 32-story Art Deco skyscraper designed by architects George J. Dietel and John Wade. At 398 feet tall, it is one of the largest and tallest municipal buildings in the U.S. and a prominent landmark in Western New York.
The building features rich Art Deco ornamentation, including sculptures by Rene Paul Chambellan and murals by William de Leftwich Dodge.
Interesting facts...
The building’s design is inspired by the octagon, a shape linked to psychic effects and ancient monuments and perhaps this has led to a few spooky experiences.
The observation deck on the 28th floor has a dark history of several suicides, including a tragic 1976 incident where a man was fatally impaled on the flagpole below after jumping
The Hall is considered a “zone of Exceptional Human Experience,” with numerous reports of paranormal activity such as shadowy figures, unexplained elevator stops, and eerie feelings at night. This is partly due to its location on the site of Erie County’s only public execution in 1825, where the Thayer brothers were hanged for murder
