The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II  is Italy's oldest active shopping gallery and a major landmark of Milanin Italy. Housed within a four-story double arcade in the centre of town, the Galleria is named after Victor Emmanuel II, the first king of the Kingdom of Italy. It was designed in 1861 and built by architect Giuseppe Mengoni between 1865 and 1877.

Bull Mosaic Ritual: At the center of the Galleria is a mosaic of a bull, part of the Turin coat of arms. Tradition claims that spinning three times with your heel on the bull’s groin area brings good luck—a superstition so popular that a hole has been worn into the mosaic over time.

Tradically Giuseppe Mengoni, the Galleria’s architect, died under mysterious circumstances—falling from scaffolding right on the spot where the bull mosaic is located. Some speculate it was an accident; others suggest suicide due to criticism he faced
