The first modern campus in Cambridge showing how beautiful simple forms and nature are together
Churchill College is one of the colleges of the University of Cambridge, known for its large parkland campus, strong STEM focus, and modernist architecture. It’s the largest Cambridge college, with a 50-acre site on Storey’s Way and all undergraduates housed on site.
Churchill College’s architecture is a strong example of British modernism in Cambridge: open, low-rise, and campus-like rather than cloistered and medieval. It was designed after a major 1959 competition, with Richard Sheppard, Robson and Partners selected to create a new college for science-leaning study.
Interesting facts...
The college is important architecturally because it was the first break with traditional architecture and a more open designed community feel.
