Interesting facts...
The building’s ornate lobby and facade are decorated with whimsical sculptures and faces—including caricatures of Frank Woolworth, architect Cass Gilbert, and other key figures involved in its construction. These hidden corbels are hard to spot from street level.
During WWII, the building was used for secret government operations, including Manhattan Project payroll and identity management, and even some uranium enrichment work.
