Watercolour of the beautiful green door of The Art Workers' Guild. The Art Workers’ Guild is a London-based organisation founded in 1884 by British painters, sculptors, architects, and designers inspired by William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement. Its core purpose is to advance education in all the visual arts and crafts, promoting the unity of all the arts and fostering collaboration between different creative disciplines. It includes artists, craftspeople, architects, and academics, representing more than 60 creative fields.

Interesting facts...

Its a serious guild and dosen't take preisoners! In the Guild’s hall, every member’s name is painted on the frieze. If a member pays all their dues until the end, their name is gilded in gold; if not, it remains in white—a quiet, visual reminder of “eternal shame” for those who don’t settle up. Members are also encouraged to “lay into each other” in argument, fostering a culture of open, sometimes fierce, artistic debate!
