St Peter’s, Vere Street, is a Grade I listed church located just north of Oxford Street in Marylebone, London. Originally built between 1721 and 1724 as the Oxford Chapel by the 2nd Earl of Oxford and Mortimer, the church was designed by the celebrated architect James Gibbs and intended as a “chapel of ease” to serve the expanding Marylebone parish. 

 

Interesting facts...

The church is a bit of s fin. itis the only surviving proprietary chapel in Marylebone from the 18th century, outlasting profound commercial redevelopment and overshadowed by department stores, including the Marshall & Snelgrove (later Debenhams) flagship on Oxford Street.
