The Holburne Museum in Bath is a Grade I listed Georgian building—originally a hotel—now celebrated as the city’s first public art gallery. Its collection centers on works acquired by Sir William Holburne, with over 4,000 objects including fine silver, Old Master paintings, porcelain, and portrait miniatures.

The original building, designed by Thomas Baldwin and Charles Harcourt Masters, presents an elegant Georgian façade. It feels quite Palladian and is one of my favourite buildings for its scale and balance of decoration.

The modern extension is also very beautiful and mirrors the scale of the main building.

Interesting facts...

The gentile architecture hides what could have been a haven for lively parties, gambling, love affairs, and even scandals. At the time the Pleasure Gardens were known for being quite raucous!
