The famous, curving, organic designs of the Métro entrances were largely the work of French architect Hector Guimard. Guimard was a key figure in the Art Nouveau movement, which was known for its flowing, natural forms and intricate details inspired by plant life, curved lines, and asymmetry.

 

Many of the motifs in Guimard's designs are inspired by nature, including flower patterns, leafy forms, and curved tendrils. The design was meant to bring the feeling of a garden or natural space into the urban environment, contrasting with the rigid, industrialized modernity of the city. The concept also allowed freedon of design with desdingens adapted for each loaction

 

Built in 1900 they remain one of the most iconic symbols of the city.
