Interesting facts...
A lesser‑known secret about The Langham, London is that its Palm Court—famous today for its afternoon tea since 1865—was, in Victorian times, one of the first “safe” public spaces where discreet meetings could take place between people who needed to be seen socially but also have private conversations away from gossiping drawing rooms. Indeed a favourite of Oscar Wilde where he could meet in a place where “everyone and no‑one” saw certain meetings, yet nothing was ever recorded.
