The IOD. The building used to be the United Service Club was founded in 1815 for the use of senior officers in the British Army and Royal Navy – the club was accordingly known to its members as "The Senior". The club closed in 1978. It influenced the Atheneum building opposite in its architectural style and frieze. The Institute of Directors now occupies the building retaining all its original features, including Wellingtons Step.
