'Institute for Painters in Water Colour’ on Piccadilly. Founded as the New Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1807 it went through serval iterations. Its establishment was a reaction to the Royal Society of Art dismissal of watercolour as a serious art form, it even based its Institute directly opposite on Piccadilly. If you look up you will see the eight busts of leading painters of the time all looking incredibly serious.

Not only was it fighting for change, unlike other clubs of the time, it was open to all painters. A positive move which is the only way we can advance as a society.
