The Hôtel de Ville is the official city hall of Paris—an ornate neo-Renaissance landmark. The city has been run from here since 1357, making it a central figure in the city’s governance for over six centuries.

The current building features an extravagant French Renaissance style and was reconstructed between 1873 and 1882 after being destroyed by fire during the Paris Commune uprising in 1871. It's a close copy of the original

During the liberation of Paris in 1944, Charles de Gaulle gave his famous victory speech to the crowd from a window at the Hôtel de Ville
