A garden in the sky
One of London’s secret spaces, Brown Hart Gardens links Balderton and Duke Street. Unusually it sits a storey up from Ground level and is accessed via the two stairs either side of the large green door. Originally laid out as a level garden for neighbouring Clarendon Buildings. In 1902 the need for an electricity substation meant the removal of the gardens. The Duke of Westminster insisted a garden be placed on top and this was opened in 1906.
100 years later the gardens were remodelled and a cafe added. Today the garden regularly hosts art events and is a welcome restate from bust Oxford Street
